About Lauren

Hello! My name is Lauren de Rijcke (she/her) and I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying). I offer in-person therapy in Guelph, Ontario and virtual therapy for clients across Ontario.

I believe our stories can be told and change can happen when we feel safe, held, and free from judgement.

My therapeutic style is warm, empathic and compassionate. I offer suggestions and insight pulling from different modalities (types of therapy) to help clients understand their experience and what is keeping them stuck.

I am truly passionate about witnessing peoples’ journeys, and working with clients to help deepen their self-awareness.

  • I believe that the majority of client’s access to change in therapy comes from them feeling safe to explore what has been working for them and what has not.

I am a neurodivergent parent, step-parent, experienced educator, craft-lover, and nature-seeker. My 18 years of experience teaching in the public education system has provided me with a unique perspective and insight into supporting clients who feel they are struggling to balance it all.

  • My practice is based on the principles of person-centred therapy (PCT). I offer empathic listening and a stance of unconditional positive regard.

    My practice is:

    • Trauma-aware

    • Compassion-based

    • Affirmative and strengths-based

    • Culturally sensitive

Specific to the client’s needs, I may draw on:

    • Internal family systems (IFS) parts work

    • Attachment-based theories

    • Cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT)-based theories

  • Although I serve a wide range of client concerns, my areas of special interest include:

    • Clients who wonder why patterns in their lives are no longer working for them

    • Neurodivergence (ADHD, Autism, etc.)

    • Parenting and reparenting (inner child work)

    • Helping you understand how your past impacts your present

  • Although recommended therapeutic treatment will vary depending on client concerns and other factors, here is some information about the typical “flow” of therapy.

In beginning our work together, when we are building the therapeutic relationship, it is quite typical that I recommend a frequency of weekly sessions for the first 4 sessions. The length of time between sessions will typically increase over time, moving from weekly, to bi-weekly to monthly. We will check in routinely regarding your therapeutic goals and progress.
